Image Converter

Converts images between JPG, PNG and WebP, and opens iPhone HEIC, AVIF, GIF and BMP as input. You can lower the quality or shrink the longest side to make the file smaller. Everything runs inside your browser.

This tool does not upload your files. Close the tab and nothing is left behind.

Changing an image's format without a desktop program

An iPhone hands you HEIC files that a Windows PC or a web form refuses, a website wants WebP for speed, a print shop wants JPG, a form says the photo must be under 2 MB. Format conversion is one of those jobs that used to need an installed program and now happens in the browser: this tool opens JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF and HEIC and writes JPG, PNG or WebP, several files at a time, with a ZIP for the batch.

The three settings do most of the work. Pick JPG for photographs, PNG for screenshots, logos and anything with a transparent background, and WebP when a site needs the smallest file that still looks right. Quality applies to JPG and WebP, where High is visually indistinguishable from the original and Small file roughly halves the size again at a visible cost; PNG is lossless and ignores the setting. The longest-side limit is the quickest way to meet an upload cap, because halving the pixel dimensions cuts the file to about a quarter. Transparent areas turn white in a JPG, since the format has no transparency.

Converting means redrawing the picture, so EXIF data such as the location and camera model is not carried over, and the rotation is applied to the pixels first so a phone photo comes out upright. Only the first frame of an animated GIF or WebP is kept. Files are processed in your browser and never uploaded, which is worth knowing when the pictures are of documents or people. If you need the metadata preserved while losing weight, pdf-compress is for PDFs and there is no equivalent here; the Remove EXIF tool does the opposite, dropping the data while keeping every pixel.

Frequently asked questions

How do I open an iPhone HEIC photo on Windows?
Convert it to JPG here. JPG opens everywhere, and at the High setting the difference from the original is not visible.
Which format should I pick?
JPG for photos, PNG for screenshots, logos and anything with transparency, WebP when a website needs the smallest file. JPG has no transparency, so see-through areas are filled with white.
What happens to the EXIF data?
It is dropped, because the picture is redrawn. The rotation is applied to the pixels first, so the result stays upright.
Does it keep animation?
No. Only the first frame of an animated GIF or WebP is converted.
