When you need a cut-out image
Marketplace listings on Etsy, Amazon or Shopify often expect a product shot with nothing behind it, and a photo straight off a phone rarely arrives that way. The same problem shows up in a slide deck, where a logo saved as a JPG drags a white rectangle across a coloured background. This tool erases the background and hands back a transparent PNG, with the whole job running inside your browser.
There are two methods and picking the right one matters more than any setting. For a product photographed against a white sweep, choose 'White background': it traces the white inward from the edges of the picture, so the cut stays sharp at the original resolution and any white inside the subject, such as lettering on a label, is left alone. If the backdrop carries a soft shadow or a grey cast, widen the tolerance; if the subject itself is mostly white, tighten it instead.
For anything else, the AI method runs a small segmentation model on your own device and copes with cluttered or coloured backgrounds. It judges the picture at 320 by 320 internally, so on a large photo the edge is softer than the white-background trace and fine strands of hair come out stepped rather than feathered. The model is about 8 MB on first use and works offline afterwards, and several images can be processed in one go and downloaded as a ZIP.

- Will white areas inside the subject be erased?
- No. The white-background method starts at the edges of the picture and only removes what connects back to them, so white lettering in a logo or a white shirt stays opaque.
- Does it handle hair and fur?
- Not perfectly. Fine strands come out stepped rather than feathered. For detailed cut-outs a dedicated editor still does better.
