Image to PDF

Application forms, expense claims and government portals almost always specify PDF, and what you have is four photos taken with your phone. The same gap appears when a signed page has to go back as a document, or when a month of receipts needs to travel as one attachment rather than thirty images. Combining them into a single paginated file is usually all that is being asked for.

Page size is the only setting, and it offers three choices: A4, Letter, or a page that takes the dimensions of the image placed on it. A4 and Letter are always portrait, with the picture scaled down inside a fixed margin of about 12.7 mm and centred, so a landscape photo sits in the middle with a band of white above and below; the fit-to-image option avoids those bands by matching the page to the photo, at the cost of pages that vary in size and have no margin at all. Files are sorted by filename as they are added and can be reordered by hand afterwards, which is what saves you when twenty scans go in at once. Shoot square-on to the page in even light, because a photo taken at an angle stays just as crooked in the PDF.

JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP are all accepted, and HEIC or HEIF files straight from an iPhone are converted automatically rather than refused. Pictures are embedded as they are, so twenty 12-megapixel photos make a heavy PDF and pdf-compress is the usual next step when there is an upload limit. The pages hold no selectable text, so run pdf-ocr if the recipient needs to search them, and note that everything is assembled in your browser, which matters when the photos are of identity documents or receipts.
