Pages the scanner fed in sideways

A document feeder takes one sheet the wrong way round and half the scan arrives upside down. Mixed documents cause the same trouble on purpose: a contract in portrait with one landscape table in the middle, or photos taken with a phone held sideways. Viewers let you rotate the display, but that setting is forgotten the moment the file is reopened or sent to someone else.

Rotation goes in 90-degree steps and you can apply it to the whole document or only to the pages that need it, which is what you want for the landscape table nobody else should have to turn their head for. The change is written into the file itself, so every reader, printer and preview thumbnail shows it the right way up. Because rotation is recorded as a page property rather than a redrawing of the content, nothing is re-encoded and no quality is lost.

What this cannot do is straighten a page that was scanned at a slight angle or fix one that was fed in mirrored; those need rescanning. If the misfed sheets are simply unwanted, pdf-split lets you keep only the ranges worth having. The file is opened and rewritten in your browser and never uploaded.
