Split PDF

A 180-page scan often contains three unrelated documents, and the person who asked for the lease does not need the rest. The same problem shows up when a report is too heavy for an email attachment limit and has to travel in parts, or when only pages 4 to 6 of a tax return belong in an application. Splitting is also how you get one file per invoice out of a batch that was scanned in a single pass.

Custom ranges like 1-3,4-6,7- are usually the fastest route: the trailing dash means everything to the end, so you do not have to know the page count. Splitting every N pages suits regular material such as double-sided forms, and single-page mode is best kept for small documents, because a 200-page file becomes 200 downloads in the ZIP. Count pages by their position in the PDF starting at one, not by the numbers printed in the footer, which often start later.

The pages are copied without re-encoding, so each piece is visually identical to the original and no quality is lost in the process. Splitting alone does not shrink anything much when one section carries most of the images, so pair it with pdf-compress if a size limit is the real problem. The file is read in your browser and the ZIP is built there too, so the document never leaves your machine.
