Word to Text

Sometimes formatting is noise. Counting words, running a document through a script, loading it into a translation memory, or handing it to a tool that only accepts plain text all work better when the styling is gone rather than half-converted.

Fonts, styles, images, headers and footers are dropped; table cells stay as tab-separated text and footnotes are appended at the end. What comes out is a .txt file in UTF-8, so accented and non-Latin characters survive intact. Several documents can be converted in one run, each producing its own file.

If the structure matters after all, Word to Markdown keeps headings, lists, tables and emphasis, and Word to HTML keeps the fonts and table formatting as well. Both are better starting points when a human will read the result. Nothing is uploaded at any point.
