HTML to Markdown

Turn a saved web page or an HTML document into clean Markdown. Headings, lists, tables, links, bold and italics are kept, and images embedded in the file come along.

This tool does not upload your files. Close the tab and nothing is left behind.

Bringing a web page into a Markdown draft

Moving a blog post, a documentation page or an internal wiki into Markdown by hand is slow work. Save the page as HTML, open it here, and the heading levels, lists, tables, links and emphasis come out as Markdown syntax. Several files can be converted at once.

The conversion goes through a document model, so an HTML table stays a table with its columns and merges, links become [text](address), and images stored as data URLs are embedded. Navigation menus and footers are text too, so they are converted as well; delete them from the result.

A browser cannot read another site's address directly, which is why the tool takes files rather than a URL. The resulting .md can go straight on to the PDF, Word and Hangul converters.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paste a URL?
No. A browser cannot fetch other sites, so save the page first (Ctrl+S, "Web page, HTML only") and open the file here.
What about images?
Images stored inside the HTML as data URLs are embedded in the Markdown. Images referenced by web address keep only their address.
Are menus and ads converted too?
Yes, all text in the HTML is converted. Delete what you do not need afterwards.
