When the reviewer wants track changes
Plenty of writing starts in Markdown and then has to go somewhere that only speaks Word. A supervisor who reviews with track changes, a journal that requires a .docx submission, or a colleague who will not install anything new all force the same conversion, and copying the text across loses every heading and list.
Headings, tables, bold and italic become real Word structures, so the outline pane works and the tables are editable cells; list items are indented paragraphs with the bullet or number typed in. Code blocks arrive as ordinary paragraphs, one per line, without a monospace font or shading, so restyle them in Word if they matter. Fonts and spacing are Word's defaults, so apply your own style set once the file is open.
The download is a .docx, with no print dialog in between. If the document is finished and nobody needs to edit it, Markdown to PDF is one step shorter and fixes the layout instead of leaving it to whichever Word version opens the file.

Frequently asked questions
- Fonts?
- Word defaults; change them in Word.
- Links and images?
- Links, data-URL images and merged cells in HTML tables are kept. Images referenced by URL, blockquote styling and horizontal rules are not carried over.
- Code blocks?
- They become ordinary paragraphs, one per line, without a monospace font. Only inline code is monospaced.
