Sometimes formatted notes need to be readable without a build step, a repository or an account. Release notes going to a client, a handover document for a contractor, or a page that has to sit on a shared drive all need something that just opens in a browser.

The output is a single .html file with its stylesheet written inside it, so it renders the same on a machine that has never seen your project and there is no separate CSS file to lose. A copy button puts the same markup on your clipboard if you are pasting into a content management system instead of shipping a file. Any raw HTML in your Markdown is sanitised on the way through, so scripts and form elements are removed rather than carried into the output.

Images referenced by URL keep their tags but do not display, because the file carries a content policy that only allows images embedded as data URLs. When the result has to look identical everywhere and forever, Markdown to PDF is the more durable choice.

Frequently asked questions

Are styles included?
Yes, a basic document stylesheet is embedded so it looks the same anywhere.
What about images?
Only data-URL images display. Tags pointing at web addresses stay in the markup, but the file's built-in content policy stops them loading, and local image files are not embedded.
