Markdown Table Generator

Turn cells copied from Excel or Google Sheets, or a CSV/TSV file, into a Markdown table. Columns are padded to line up and numeric columns are right-aligned. Copy the result or save it as .md.

This tool does not upload your files. Close the tab and nothing is left behind.

Paste cells copied from Excel or Google Sheets and the Markdown table appears at once. Columns that hold only numbers are right-aligned.

Getting a spreadsheet table into Markdown

Markdown tables need their pipes and dashes lined up by hand, and with more than a few columns that quickly goes wrong. This tool takes cells copied from Excel or Google Sheets, or a CSV/TSV file, and returns a table with the columns padded to width as soon as you paste.

Columns that contain only numbers get a right-alignment marker (---:), pipes inside cells are escaped, and quoted CSV values are read as a single cell. One checkbox decides whether the first row is the header.

Copy the result into a README or a wiki, or save it as .md and hand it to another Markdown tool. The data never leaves your browser.

How to use

  1. 1

Paste table data or open a CSV file.

  2. 2

Say whether the first row is the header.

  3. 3

Copy the Markdown table or download it.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to a pipe (|) inside a cell?
It is escaped as \| so the table does not break. Line breaks become <br>.
And values that contain commas?
Quoted CSV values are read as one cell. Data copied from Excel is tab-separated, so commas are no problem.
Can cells be merged?
Markdown tables cannot merge cells. If you need merges, convert with Markdown to HTML and edit the HTML table.
