Fewer sheets from the same handout

A sixty-page handout for a workshop is thirty sheets if you put two pages on each one, and most people only discover their print driver can do this after the first run has already come out. Some drivers hide the option, some remote and network printers do not expose it at all, and a print shop generally wants the file laid out exactly as it should come off the press.

Two pages per sheet produces landscape A4 and four per sheet produces portrait A4, with each source page scaled to fit its cell and centred inside a small fixed margin. The pages are embedded as vector content rather than re-rendered into images, so the result prints exactly as sharp as the original and the file does not balloon.

The layout applies to the whole document; there is no page range, no adjustable margin, no separating border and no choice of paper size other than A4. Booklet ordering and double-sided arrangement are jobs for the printer driver, since they depend on how your particular printer feeds and folds.
