Signing without printing and rescanning
A form comes back with one thing missing, your signature, and the usual answer is to print it, sign it, scan it and send it back. That needs a printer and a scanner, takes ten minutes, and the returned page is always slightly grey and crooked.
Draw the signature with a mouse or a finger on a touchscreen, type your name, which is drawn in dark-blue italic, or upload a PNG or JPG of a signature you already have; its background is not removed, so use a transparent PNG if only the ink should show. Click the page where it should sit and adjust the width, which runs from five to a hundred percent of the page. The page range starts as the page you clicked, so widen it when every page needs initialling.
What this produces is an image stamped onto the page, not a certificate-based digital signature. It does not prove who signed, and it does not detect changes made afterwards, so it is not a qualified electronic signature in the legal sense. That is fine for most everyday forms and not enough where a certified signature is demanded. The document never leaves your browser, which is the point when it is a signed one.
