Editing a document you only have as PDF
Sooner or later someone sends the final PDF and not the file it came from. The colleague who made the template has left, the agency that designed the brochure has closed, or a form arrives as a PDF that you are expected to fill in and return in Word. Retyping a ten-page document is the alternative nobody wants.
What crosses over is the text, and only the text. The tool reads the text layer, breaks it into paragraphs and writes those into a .docx, so pictures, tables, columns, headers and the original layout are not reproduced at all; what you get is the wording in editable form, ready to be laid out again. Because a PDF records where each glyph sits rather than where a paragraph begins, the breaks between paragraphs are inferred, and the two halves of a two-column page can arrive interleaved. You can give a page range, so a long report can be converted a chapter at a time instead of whole.
A scanned PDF produces no text at all here, because its pages are pictures rather than characters, so run pdf-ocr on it first. When the tables and the structure are the point, the AI conversion tool is the one built for that, and the image extraction tool is what gets the pictures out of a document. If you only want the wording for a quote or a translation, pdf-to-text is quicker and hands you the same text without the Word wrapper. Conversion runs in your browser, which keeps contracts and personal documents off any server.
