Text QR Code Generator

Encode any text, such as a note, coupon code, instructions or coordinates, as a QR code. Scanning shows the text as-is.

This tool does not upload your files. Close the tab and nothing is left behind.

Higher levels survive damage better but make the code denser. Use H if you plan to place a logo on it.

Adding a logo locks error correction to H. Test-scan before printing.

Type something and the QR code will appear.

A short note that scans

A maintenance tag that should carry the serial number and the last service date. A shelf label with storage instructions, a caption beside an exhibit, a note on a parcel that the courier is meant to read. In each case the information is short, fixed, and more useful on a phone than in small print.

Type the text and the code redraws as you go. Length is the thing to watch: more characters means a denser grid, and a dense code needs a better camera, better light and a larger print. Keep it to a couple of lines and it will scan from a distance in poor conditions.

Error correction trades capacity for damage tolerance. Pick the highest level for a label that will be scratched, wet or partly covered, and the lowest when the text is long and the code lives somewhere clean and indoors. The text is carried in the code itself, so there is no server, no tracking and no expiry. For a web address, the URL generator handles the prefix for you.

Frequently asked questions

How much text fits?
About 2,300 characters of ordinary text at the default error-correction level (M) and about 2,900 at level L, with Korean and other three-byte scripts fitting roughly a third of that, but codes beyond a few hundred characters become hard to scan. For long content, publish a page and use a URL code instead.
Are line breaks kept?
Yes, line breaks are encoded as typed.
